Doc Savage was born in the mind of Lester Dent (1905-1959) and was first published in the pulp genre between 1933 and 1949 in a total of 181 stories. Doc was re-issued by Bantam Books between 1964 and 1990. There has also been a movie by George Pal as well as a biography by Philip Jose' Farmer. Will Murray has since written more stories in the 1990's.

I first got acquainted with Doc when I was down with the flu at the age of 12. I found my brothers small collection. The first book I read was #45 The Men Who Smiled No More. Then I was hooked and began a 30 year quest to find them all. I finally succeeded in 2002 with the astonishing find of all the doubles in mint condition in a tiny bookstore in Langley BC. I quickly purchased them all for a mere 60 dollars and gleefully went home to read the new 
stories I hadn't read before.

Doc and I have parted company for a while as I concentrate on my other interests now, but I am still comforted by the novels staring down at me while I putter around the house. It is nice to know that Doc will always be there when I need to see there is still good guys around.

Philip Jose Farmer wrote a biography of Doc in 1973 and turned his hand to writing a Doc story entitled Escape From Loki after all the originals were published. Then Will Murray took over and wrote 7 more books.
