This is the #286 Ford Transit Fire Van I got at a flea market for 10 bucks. It has the type 1 body with the sliding door on the other side and the double doors on the rear. The type 2 body can be seen here. It needed a bit of work but looks much better now. One of my more challenging rebuilds. I got the ladder and antenna from my local source. I managed to rebuild the hose reel assembly and replace the hose with some old wire insulation. It looks and works very well now. I just touched up the paint in spots as opposed to a full repaint. I have also managed to acquire another one with the box in great shape although missing all the doors and the ladder. I got the parts and matched the paint to the toy as best I could. I also managed to repair the hose rewind mechanism, replaced the hose with #16 wire yellow insulation, and carved a hose nozzle from an old nail. It looks really good on the shelf now. It was almost impossible to match the paint exactly so I am going to keep my eye out for another one that has doors intact.
